I totally bought the wrong guitar. Clearly this one was made for me.

Oh Scott

Filed under: Uncategorized — Dean @ 10:28 pm

So I felt like walking to the store and I thought I’d call Scott and see if he wanted to come.

“Hello?”
“Hey man, sup?”
“Just singing some karaoke at the bar, hold on a second…”

Got a completely different one

Not a big fan of the tobacco burst or sunburst or whatever they call that style of paint job though. Has ding in the front so I got a considerable deal, yay.

I was just about falling asleep on the drive home and yet I stayed up all night playing it, heh. Sounds (and kinda looks) like a strat. Guess I gotta work on my surf guitar.

Webcams

There are three major purchases I need to make here. Laptop, Guitar, BBQ. We took a trip up to the city the other day with the intention of shopping for guitars and Barbques. Plan was to wait until after monday in case apple announces something crazy at WWDC (mac developers conference). But I did a little reasoning on the way up and it became clear in my mind that they weren’t going to release anything, because they’ve already updated the stuff they’re going to update this month. Due to the way the U.S. Education system buys it’s machines, Apple would have needed to have all their stuff out by friday. So I decided, that we’d go check out the middle of the line macbook and probably pick one up at westworld.

Long story short, Due to a couple of things they snuck into the pro line but didn’t do a very good job of advertising (Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo chipset, LED backlight, smaller, lighter, cooler, longer battery life) I ended up spending $800 more than I planned and bought a 15″ Macbook Pro.

What this means to you is that I can actually use my webcameras again, because my machine has ports that aren’t fried.

(there’s an image you’re missing out on if you’re looking at this in facebook instead of my blog.)

Woo! (what’s the word for 3-eyed vision?) Stereo+1? Threeo? Triplestereo?

I call it: THREE-DEAN!

Screen Left(my right): Logitech Orbit
Middle:Built-in isight
Screen Right(my left): Firewire isight

Boy does that orbit ever suck except for the motorized camera head (which isn’t even all that great in itself).

Fury

For the record, money as no object, I’d buy a guitar from here:

Semi-obscure company that Rob discovered from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that makes their own special brand of awesome.

Guitars

Narrowing in on a guitar now, holding off on the resonator in favor of an electric for the moment.

Still thinking about it, So I’ll post this here just in case anyone’s a guitar nut and they want to steer me clear of one.

Epiphone Version of the Gibson SG (G-400 Goth)
Advantages: SG’s a pretty standard all-purpose guitar. Higher quality than the other SG listed. Word is if I replace the pickup’s it’s as good or better than a standard Gibson SG (thinking of buying one second hand from a guy on facebook, for a bit off, but I’ll have to ship it across country.) Disadvantages: No Tremalo (whammy bar), a bit fatter neck than some of the shredders further down the list.
Epiphone Version of the Gibson SG (G-310 Emily the Strange edition.)
Advantages: Same as above but has emily on it so it’s a goofy toy guitar that no one will expect me to know how to play.
Disadvatages:G-310 means it’s made in indonesia which I’m told isn’t a good thing.
Dean Evo Noir (Apparently it’s trent reznor’s guitar that he uses on tour as NIN)
Advantages: Everyone says it’s a really great guitar. “Replace the pick-ups and it’s better than a les paul.”
Disadvantages:No Tremalo. I don’t really like the les paul shape.
Dean ML Noir XT
Advantages:Floyd Rose Tremalo in wikkid black.
Disadvantages: Totally stupid looking.

Jackson JS30
Advantages: Floyd Rose Tremalo, fast neck. Can get one in Viking from a dude.
Disadvantages: The one I can get is Red, I’d have to paint it into a more respectable color SG works in red, this doesn’t. As Dave said “looks like a hair metal guitar” (because it is.)

favorite of the bunch but the most expensive.
Advantages: neck-through design (body and neck of the guitar are one solid piece so it can be thinner.) Totally rad color shifting paintjob with a choice between red to green or blue to green. Floyd Rose Tremalo. Out there shape.
Disadvantages: I’d probably kill someone with that big spike. Don’t like the shark’s tooth inlays on the fretboard.

Edit: just cause people keep randomly finding this post. Here’s the one I got eventually. http://www.deanwelsh.com/?p=738

You might have noticed Life of Pi sitting on my “currently reading” stack on the right there for a long time. Well i’m not leaving it up as a recommendation, I’ve been leaving it up because I haven’t finished it. Just can’t get interested in the damn kid’s tiger. Just wanted to let you know that I am anti-pi.

mmm… pie.
